Success in the Big Apple
I gave a fashion show/workshop at the Jane Austen Society of North America's (JASNA) yearly conference. The AGM (annual general meeting) had about 750 participants. JASNA and it's AGMs have the perfect mixture of academics and civilian members. The presence of the academics keeps everyone honest and the civilians make it fun.
As befitting the media center of the world, the conference was covered by the major newspapers. With much glee, I discovered I was mentioned in articles in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Huzzah!

Regency Costume Tip-of-the-Week
Gentlemen: You're getting dressed for the ball and you discover you can't find your gloves. It's the weekend and the ball will be starting soon. Formal white gloves are difficult to find under normal circumstances. What do you do?
The solution: Head to the drug store and purchase a pair of moisturizing gloves from the nail care section. They cost only a few dollars and you'll make it through the ball without scandalizing the assembly by touching your dance partners with your bare hand. Thanks to Sir Thomas for the suggestion and the gloves.

Ball Season is Upon Us
It's time to bring the gowns and tailcoats out of storage to get them ready for rentals. Time to introduce the purchases made during the winter. New mannequins have joined the Miss Bennets mannequins. They even have heads this time! Hazzah!

English Country Dance for Beginnners
I've been co-teaching English Country Dance beginner classes. The first week, I taught "Christchurch Bells" which I have taught before and "Alice" which I have never taught or called before but am very familiar with. The second week, I did "Drapers' Gardens" which I have taught before, "Knole Park" which I have never taught or called but am very familiar with and "Take a Dance" which I have not taught or called nor I was I familiar with it. I was supposed to teach for the third and final class but the other teacher wanted to teach alone.
I used Christchurch Bells and Drapers' Gardens this past summer for the Jane Austen Singing School For Young Ladies concert. The photos below are from an encore performance in Rochester. More photos from the concert can be found here. Most of the costumes are mine.
